One last Sunday under my direction, before calling time on twenty-three years of the unalloyed privilege of leading the music here. We ended with two pieces that felt special to me: one last chance to sing a new song to the Lord, in a setting of one of today’s Communion antiphons, with verses from psalm 33(34); and then an old warhorse of a hymn that’s been one of our signature tunes right since the beginning. I’ll miss the place, and its wonderful people.
It was indeed one of the most beautiful selections of music. Truly befitting for the ocassion and passionately rendered by the choir. There was a 'knowing'. You could feel it in the air. We will miss you so much Martin. You are truly inspiring and exemplary.
ReplyDeleteThank you for those lovely words, Catherine. It's been a joy. I have the highest of hopes for the future for music at the Cathedral – once the arrangements are finally in place, great things are coming.
