As on previous occasions for this feast day, we sang Bernadette Farrell’s lovely setting of psalm 138(139) in responsorial mode, using the last two lines of the final verse (“for the wonder of who I am I praise you, safe in your hands all creation is made new”) as the people’s response, and allowing the choir to sing the choral arrangements of the verses.
As joyful as this feast is, I was a little sad that it displaced the 12th Sunday, because I really like your setting for the Communion Antiphon of that Sunday, 'The eyes of everyone'. I can't remember the verses from when last we sung it, but it's a lovely, bright and joyful refrain and I can remember it well. The music also seems really suited to the words.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Delighted that someone pays this much attention. :-) The verses are from Ps 144(145) - vv 10-11, 13-14, 17-18. There's another version with roughly the same verses, and a more general-purpose refrain ('How good is the Lord to all'), which I adapted for a wedding from the version you remember. Thanks again for thinking of it.
